Compensation: $18-22.00/hour + vacation pay

Hours: 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday-Thursday (34 hours per week)

You will be an important member of the team maintaining Windfields estate. Windfields is a designated heritage property. The estate features two woodlots and more than 200 specimen trees.

The Arborist is responsible for employing best practices for arboreal care of specimen trees, orchards, woodlots, hedges and shrubs. This position offers a diverse range of hands-on responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect specimen trees, orchard, hedges and shrubs for insects, disease and overall health and communicate observations
  • Recommend replacement of trees and shrubs
  • Water, weed and fertilize as required
  • Prune deadwood and suckers from specimen trees in accordance with CFC’s Woodlot Management Plan: endangered species protection; hazard tree monitoring; understory clean-up; native species introduction and invasive species management
  • Maintain the arboreal tools
  • Update the CFC’s Landscape and Garden Report, and online landscape maps, documenting the specimen trees (photos, text and drawings)
  • Assist the Horticulturalist, as required with major projects; and
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


Requirements:

  • Enrolled in or completed an Arboreal, Forest Management or Environmental Management or related program at the post-secondary level
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job, including: bending, lifting, utilizing hand tools
  • Chainsaw licence is an asset
  • Plant poison licence is an asset
