Donor Spotlight: Kevin Fisher

Kevin Fisher is a litigation partner at Gardiner Roberts LLP. His passion for the screen-based industry and philanthropic spirit has led him to be part of the CFC Circle of Supporters for many years. Through his generous donations, Kevin has helped accelerate the careers of alumni that have gone through our suite of programs across film, TV, acting, music and digital/immersive media.

We caught up with Kevin to discuss his involvement with the CFC and why supporting Canadian talent is so important to him. Read on in the spotlight below.

What inspired you to start giving to the CFC?

I have been a long-time supporter of TIFF and it was through my involvement with TIFF that I came to know about the CFC.  For several years I was part of group that raised money for TIFF’s philanthropic efforts which led to assisting the CFC in a similar endeavor to help it raise funds and awareness as to what the CFC does to support and grow Canadian talent for television and film. Through that outreach and seeing what the CFC does, as well as meeting people who had been supported by the CFC, I began to directly support the CFC.

Why is it important for you to support Canadian talent and the screen-based industry?

It is important to tell Canadian stories and to see a Canadian perspective, not just at home but for the whole world to see who we are. It is all the more important given our proximity to the U.S. and the cultural impact that has on us not only as a much smaller country but also in terms of how much influence the U.S.-based media has globally.

If you were talking to someone else about giving to the CFC, what would you tell them?

I would emphasize what it is that the CFC does and what it means to so many students who have come through its doors. It is not only important from a cultural perspective but also from an industry perspective to grow and maintain talent in Canada. This is even more important as the industry is going through massive change and upheaval.

What do you hope the CFC will achieve in the future?

I hope that the CFC will continue to grow and play a key role in developing Canadian talent and technology.

What are you watching right now/favourite movies or series?

We saw so many great films at TIFF, but am also watching several great series with Canadian connections like The Umbrella Academy, Locke & Key, Hardy Boys, Invasion, and Stranger Things.
