On November 6, 2023, the CFC celebrated its Industry Showcase at Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema. The screening featured an extraordinary display of musical talent, with both the 2019 and 2023 cohorts of the Slaight Music Residency taking on the big screen to present their original music pieces. The showcase was a testament to the program’s success and impact in nurturing and developing the skills and creativity of each participating music creator. We are deeply grateful to The Slaight Family Foundation for being a lead partner on this program for more than a decade!
The evening commenced with a warm introduction from CFC’s Executive Director maxine bailey, who highlighted the organization’s steadfast commitment to Canadian storytellers and the invaluable diversity of stories and perspectives they bring to the forefront. Following maxine’s introduction, Kathryn Emslie, CFC’s Executive Lead, Programs, Talent Development and Content Creation paid homage to the remarkable work of the eleven creators who participated in the 2019 and 2023 cohorts of the Slaight Music Residency and presented each alumni with a custom clapboard to celebrate their successful completion of the program.
The anticipated celebrations for the 2019 cohort of the residency had to be temporarily postponed due to the challenges posed by the global pandemic. However, the extended wait proved to be worth it, as Anthony Wallace, Casey Laforet, Iva Delic, TIKA, Simon Poole, and Kat Burns presented an outstanding display of their original work, followed by a lineup from recent alum of the 2023 cohort, Amine Bouzaher, Conan Karpinski, Lydia Ainsworth, Stella Conway and Tori Morrison.
Together, these artists, through their diverse and innovative musical expressions, contribute significantly to the cultural mosaic of Canada, reinforcing its position as a hub of artistic excellence!
