The sophomore edition of CFC HOMECOMING, presented by Netflix, (formerly the CFC Annual BBQ Fundraiser) returns on September 10, 2023. This private invitation-only event is one of the Canadian Film Centre’s major fundraisers, celebrating CFC residents and alumni. 

New this year: please show your QR code (non-transferable) upon arrival at the event, to guarantee entry. Parking is $30 and is available onsite. All proceeds go to the CFC. 

Attire: Think 80s (if you so choose!).

 

Enjoy an afternoon of 80s inspired entertainment, food and fun, all in support of the CFC and its 35th anniversary year. Entertainment throughout the afternoon includes:

MAYHEM’S FINEST – best known in Toronto as the main members of the 6ix Squad for the Toronto Raptors. You may also recognize these dancers from So You Think You Can Dance Canada or many of the numerous music videos they have been featured in (“Bounce with Me” – Kreesha Turner, “Fight Back” – Raptile, or “Lil Mamma” – Carl Henry), commercials (Footlocker, Doriots/Xbox), and movies like Hulk, American Pie Band Camp, How She Move, Camp Rock (1 & 2).

DJ JADE ELEKTRA – a Toronto-based “out” HIV+ Queer African-American Drag Entertainer, Recording Artist/Live Singer, Film/Stage/TV Actor & AIDS Activist. Jade continues to raise awareness for the HIV Community, and is beginning a residency at the University of Toronto for their Queer & Trans Research Lab. As far as her discography, she has a list of music that covers 1997 to current playlists on iTunes, Spotify & YouTube. Her new album Legendary, Darling is out now., Darling! is out now!

THE EGGPLANT COLLECTIVE – The Eggplant Collective is a group from all walks of life who come together for the sole purpose of being the most badass soundtrack to your party. Children of hip hop’s golden age – they bring unbridled creativity, energy, hidden tricks and secret weapons.

LISA ODJIG – Lisa is a Two Time World Champion Hoop Dancer along with five additional hoop dance championship titles won throughout Canada and the United States. She performed for the late Queen Elizabeth II and was the invited hoop dancer to perform the traditional Hoop Dance for United Nations, Meeting of the Parties Global Climate Change Summit. Lisa is the featured hoop dancer in the ELLE video called The Movement, filmed in New York City.

JOHN FELLNERJohn is a producer, writer, vocalist, arranger and multi-instrumentalist. He is best known for his work with UMC/Motown signee Emanuel, for whom he produced and wrote the critically acclaimed album Alt Therapy. The album was a nominee for Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year at the Juno Awards 2022 and had several major TV show syncs, including “Need You” and “Pillows” on HBO Harlem, Issa Rae’s show Insecure, and Diggstown.
