Record of An Unreal Dwelling

Synopsis

Record of an Unreal Dwelling is an exploration of the poetics of New Media. The house I grew up in is the phenomenological space inhabited by personal memories and dreams. Themes of change that transcend the individual are used to probe the flow of meanings as the content mirrors the form of the digital environment. The spirit of the piece as well as the title is taken from the Haibun poetry of the seventeenth century poet, Basho. Images are juxtaposed, contrasted, and reinforced with the text and narration giving meaning a dynamic range and flow of interpretation, inviting and engaging the user to appropriate the piece. Memories and dreams merge in the ‘space of a dream’ in this ‘Unreal Dwelling’.
