Finding the Angels & Devils in the Details

Synopsis

"Finding the Angels & Devils in the Details" uses a digital gaze tracking system in an attempt to find and demonstrate a common pattern in gaze tracks, the foundation of how we see what we see, across multiple individuals and scene types. While all the scan patterns were similar, there were clearly detectable differences suggesting a more mindful use of sight in visual artists when compared with non-artists. The effect of aging was also apparent in the collected data. The gaze tracks also demonstrate how little actual detail is used to form a full visual perception and how much more detail a mindful use of the sense of sight might bring. The study's results may have applications in a number of areas such as graphic, industrial, retail and urban design as well as the design of possible medical/diagnostic applications.
