CFC Alumni Shine Bright at the 2025 Canadian Screen Awards – With Over 100 Nominations

If ever the Canadian Film Centre’s (CFC) impact was in question, the 2025 Canadian Screen Awards provide a resounding answer. With a stellar total of 101 nominations—a 26% increase from last year’s 80—our alumni continue to redefine the Canadian screen industry and reinforce CFC’s vital role as a launchpad for top-tier talent.

A Growing Legacy of Excellence

This year’s nomination surge is more than just a number; it’s a testament to the deep and lasting relationships forged through the Centre, as well as the creative spirit and innovation of our alumni. With 82 individual alumni recognized across film, television, and digital media, multiple names are proving that their creative vision continues to evolve and inspire.

Key highlights include:

Film:

Village Keeper by Karen Chapman (7 nominations, including Best Motion Picture, Best Original Screenplay and the John Dunning Best First Feature Award which is a special Canadian film award, presented to the year’s best feature film by a first-time film director)

Darkest Miriam by Naomi Jaye (6 nominations, including nods for Best Motion Picture and Adapted Screenplay). This film was supported through our Netflix Accelerator

Television:

Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent leads with 20 nominations, including Best Drama Series. Alumni Tassie Cameron, Amy Cameron, and Erin Haskett are behind this powerful production.

Allegiance, brought to life by Anar Ali, Erin Haskett, and Tex Antonucci, stands out with 8 nominations.

• Mark Montefiore’s New Metric Media shines in the comedy arena with projects like Letterkenny and Children Ruin Everything, amassing 17 nominations.

Digital Media:

• Lauren Corber’s LoCo Motion Pictures scores with 8 nominations for the web series My Dead Mom, earning recognition for Best Web Program or Series, Fiction.
