After a strong showing at TIFF, CFC alumni films continue to make the fall festival rounds. Catch the following alumni films at various festivals across Canada.

2019 Calgary International Film Festival


The 2019 Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF) runs from September 18 to 29, 2019.

  • American Woman, directed by Semi Chellas, with music by the CFC’s Slaight Music Residency’s Composer Chair, Lesley Barber, along with Aimee Bessada and Spencer Creaghan as assistants
  • Blood Quantum, written and directed by Jeff Barnaby, starring Devery Jacobs and produced by John Christou
  • Castle in the Ground, from producer William Woods and Jennifer Mesich (associate producer) and editor Jorge Weisz
  • Clifton Hill, features actor Andy McQueen and line producer Matt Code Come to Daddy, from producer Daniel Bekerman
  • Easy Land, from writer/director Sanja Živković, current producer resident Julie Strifler, executive producer Matt Code, editor Chris Mutton and composer Casey MQ
  • Guest of Honour (closing night film), was co-produced by Stephen Traynor
  • I Came Here Alone (short), from director Connor Gaston, writer Joanne Sarazen, producer Alona Metzer, editor Graham Tucker, with music by Virginia Kilbertus
  • James Vs His Future Self, co-written/directed by Jeremy LaLonde and produced by Jordan Walker
  • Little Grey Bubbles (short), featuring actor Kaelen Ohm
  • Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson & The Band counts Peter Raymont as one of its executive producers
  • She Never Died, directed by Audrey Cummings, produced by Jennifer Mesich and edited by Mike Mason
  • The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open, co-written and co-directed Kathleen Hepburn and produced by Lori Lozinski
  • The Rest of Us, from writer/director Aisling Chin-Yee, story editor Mark Van de Ven, production manager/actor Brendan Brady, executive producer Damon D’Oliveira, and producers Emma Fleury and William Woods

2019 Edmonton International Film Festival


The 2019 Edmonton International Film Festival (EIFF) runs from September 26 to October 5, 2019.

  • Clifton Hill, features actor Andy McQueen and line producer Matt Code
  • Atom Egoyan’s latest, Guest of Honour, was co-produced by Stephen Traynor
  • Bunker Burger (short), was executive produced/produced by Matt Code, co-produced by Julie Strifler and features music by Casey MQ
  • Come to Daddy, from producer Daniel Bekerman
  • Christmas Green (short), from director/writer Clara Altimas, produced by alumni Al Magee and Ali Mashayekhi, executive produced by Melanie McCaig, featuring music by Rebecca Everett

The 2019 Toronto After Dark Film Festival runs from October 17 to 25 in Toronto.

  • We Three Queens, directed by Chris Agoston, written by Marni Van Dyk, produced/executive produced by Ali Mashayekhi and Al Magee, edited by James Tracey, starring Erin Carter, with music by Spencer Creaghan

2019 Female Eye Film Festival


The 17th edition of the Female Eye Film Festival (FeFF) runs from November 7 to 10, 2019 in Toronto.

  • Going to Beyond, directed by Kalli Paakspuu

2019 Regent Park Film Festival


Two alumni projects are set to participate in Toronto’s longest running free community film festival, now in its 17th year, which runs from November 20 to 23:

2019 Whistler Film Festival


‘Canada’s coolest film fest’ returns for its 19th edition from December 4 to 8, 2019. Several alumni films are included in the full program lineup:

  • Promiseland (World Premiere), from associate producer Sage Brocklebank
  • Queen of the Morning Calm (World Premiere), which features actors Zahra Bentham and Jesse LaVercombe and music by Stephen Krecklo
  • Spinster, produced by Marc Tetreault and William Woods, featuring Jonathan Watton
  • Things I Do for Money (World Premiere), from writer/director Warren P. Sonoda, who also serves as an executive producer
  • Canadian Strain (World Premiere), from writer/director Geordie Sabbagh
