2023 WCG Screenwriting Awards
In a live ceremony on April 24, 2023, the WCG Screenwriting Awards winners were announced. This year’s winners included the following alumni:
Drama Series
- The Porter, “Episode 104” – Written by Marsha Greene
Feature Film
- Brother – Written by Clement Virgo
Tweens & Teens
- Astrid & Lilly Save the World, “One Rib” – Written by Veronika Paz

Canadian Screen Awards
CFC Alumni took home 28 wins at The 2023 Canadian Screen Awards across 21 film, TV and digital media categories. Plus, CFC alumnus and Board Member Clement Virgo’s coming-of-age tale Brother sets a new record at this year’s CSAs, earning 12 awards, including wins for Best Motion Picture, directing and adapted screenplay for Clement.

The 2023 CCE Awards are set to take place May 25, 2023 in Toronto! We are thrilled to learn so many CFC alumni have been nominated for this year’s awards. Check out the talented creators nominated below:

FESTIVALS
Cannes Film Festival
In Flames, directed by Zarrah Khan and executive produced by Shant Joshi, will have its world premiere as part of the Director’s Fortnight at Cannes 2023 on May 19. The Pakistani horror film also includes an original score by alum Kalaisan Kalaichelvan and editing by fellow alum Craig Scorgie. Learn more here.
INDUSTRY NEWS
- Neshama inks first-look deal with writer Abdul Malik
- Aircraft Pictures, founded by Anthony Leo and Andrew Rosen, teamed up with Untitled Entertainment to develop an all-new comedy series, Mapletown.
- Emmanuel Kabongo is going behind the camera to produce his first feature film called Spiral.
- Children Ruin Everything, the comedy series from Mark Montefiore’s production company New Metric Media will return to CTV for a third season.
- Streams Flow From A River will debut in Canada on Super Channel, available on Apple TV and Prime Video Channels, on April 1. The Canadian drama series is produced by Shant Joshi’s production company Fae Pictures.
- From Jennifer Podemski, Crave and APTN premiere the much-anticipated original limited series, Little Bird, Friday, May 26.
- Kent Donguines explores tattoo traditions in debut doc feature, Treasure of the Rice Terraces.
- The Globe and Mail releases their of The 25* Most Influencers People in Canadian Television, which features Jennifer Kawaja, Lea Marin, Christina Jennings, Mark Montefiore, Clement Virgo, Jennifer Podemski, JP Larocque, and Marsha Greene.
