Application Criteria

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE APPLICATION CRITERIA HAS CHANGED FOR THIS APPLICATION YEAR: ORIGINAL WRITING SAMPLE MUST BE A TELEVISION SERIES PILOT.

Applicants to the CBC Prime Time Television Program must be ready to tackle the rigors of story teamwork and have the creative and practical skills to develop dramatic series projects. To apply they must have a proven commitment to television writing and some exposure to the film and/or television industry, as well as:

  • Letter of Intent
  • CV
  • Maximum of two reference letters
  • Spec script for an existing series
  • Synopsis of that script and synopses of one other spec that the applicant plans to write
  • Original Series Pilot writing sample (half-hour or one hour, drama or comedy)
  • Synopsis of that script and synopses of two other original series ideas
  • Top 10 TV List

The applicant must be a Canadian citizen or possess permanent resident status in Canada.

CFC carries out a rigorous selection process and admission to the program is highly competitive.

A seasoned Executive Producer and senior CFC Program staff assess candidates on the strength of the work submitted in their applications, their level of professionalism and commitment to their chosen field. Wherever possible interviews are done in person, and so interviews are often conducted with selected candidates in major cities across Canada.
