Interactive Documentary @ CFC Media Lab

From the Great Canadian Story Engine to Pax Warrior, CFC Media Lab has been committed to developing the interactive documentary form since 1997. This year, we are pleased to announce a series of initiatives that are geared specifically to documentary producers of every ilk.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM HOT DOCS 2010

CFC MEDIA LAB were a part of three initiatives at this years HOT DOCS festival.

  • Hot Docs/CFC Media Lab Fellows: During the TDF, you may run into some people whose badges note them as Hot Docs/CFC Media Lab Fellows. They are a group of Canadian interactive documentary producers who were invited to participate at Hot Docs and the TDF to potentially add to the conversation of what the future of documentary filmmaking entails. Some of them see the 21st century doc in a radically new way, some of them see opportunities to reinvent the doc through cross-platform development.
  • Leave the walls at the Door Think Tank Workshop
    Monday May 4, 2010 | 3-6PM

CFC Media Lab in collaboration with Hot Docs presented “Leave the Walls at the Door” -- a facilitated matchmaking and “ideation” workshop built for documentary producers of every ilk who are itching to collaborate with others to evolve and expand their storytelling abilities.

This 3-hour session selected and invited 30 participants, including a myriad of storytellers working with a variety of platforms and backgrounds to cross their traditional platform formats and create new creative, collaborative partnerships, to adapt to the evolving landscape of documentary storytelling.

We are also pleased to announce that CFC Media Lab joined forces with The Documentary Organization of Canada - Toronto, National Film Board, Hot Docs, and Ryerson, to present docSHIFT: a cutting edge initiative aimed at fostering collaborations and business opportunities between interactive media producers and documentary filmmakers. Funded by the OMDC, this initiative will run a series of activities throughout the two-year term of the consortium, starting 2010.

Up first:

2-day weekend workshop (occured May 8-9, 2010)
CFC Media Lab & docSHIFT held a 2-day weekend workshop (May 8-9, 2010) facilitated by the UK’s Frank Boyd. Frank is the past BBC Director of Creative Development and the visionary behind world-renowned Crossover Labs as well as part of the CFC Media Lab’s guest faculty roster for the TELUS Interactive Art & Entertainment Program.

If you are an experienced interactive digital media professional (games, mobile, web, AR) looking for opportunities in the burgeoning interactive documentary genre, it is a weekend not be missed! Through participatory creative group exercises, the workshop is designed to break down walls between professional silos, develop common languages and perspectives and establish best practices for working together and ensuring success.

The docSHIFT Crossover Weekend is a pre-cursor to a five-day residential lab this Fall where select projects will move into development with the CFC Media Lab’s incubation support with Ryerson University.
