Synopsis

New media offers storytellers fresh possibilities to express narratives. For audiences and viewers, the media grants unparalleled opportunity for their specific involvement and active participation to shape and author how they receive a story and what tale is told. Some Assembly Required is a prototype that explores the potentiality of multi-layered narrative by combining traditional video conventions with web navigation. Delivered on a desktop, linking hotspots are imbedded onto a video, giving the viewer the occasion to interact with the narrative. As the viewer navigates through the video using the familiar clicking convention of the web, additional information and different layers of the story are revealed.
