The importance of diversity in Canada's cultural expression and output is a core value of the CFC. The CFC has created the CFC Diversity Scholarship in order to support individuals from traditionally under-represented communities - defined as visible minorities. These scholarships will ensure that creators from a variety of backgrounds with unique and entertaining stories, and a passion to tell them, will be able to participate in CFC programs and initiatives.
Over the past five years, nearly 25% of the CFC's residents have been members of a visible minority. K'naan Warsame was selected to take part in the CFC's presence at the Tribeca Film Festival last year with his project THE RIVER OF BLOOD. Yung Chang, who directed UP THE YANGTZE, is developing a film based on the book THE FRUIT HUNTERS as part of the CFC NFB Feature Documentary Program. And award-winners like Julia Kwan, the writer/director of EVE AND THE FIREHORSE, and Charles Officer, the writer/director of NURSE.FIGHTER.BOY, have participated in the CFC's film programs.
