CMPA Joins 2020 CFC Producers' Lab as Lead Sponsor

$75,000 sponsorship includes support for Producers' Lab and associated series of professional development bootcamps

Toronto, December 12, 2019 – The Canadian Film Centre (CFC) and the Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) are pleased to announce the CMPA as lead sponsor of the Producers’ Lab, one of CFC’s longstanding and essential program offerings. Announced yesterday evening at the Cineplex Film Program’s industry showcase at TIFF Bell Lightbox, the CMPA’s support will enable CFC to continue helping producers build successful careers in the screen-based industries.

“The CFC has a venerable reputation as an incubator for Canadian talent both in front of and behind the camera, and counts many of Canada's finest producers as alumni,” said the CMPA's President and CEO, Reynolds Mastin. “The CMPA is proud to sponsor the Producers' Lab because, like the CFC, we believe in the importance of investing in the next generation of homegrown producing talent so that we can build on our collective success as an industry and bring more great Canadian stories to the world.”

Both the CFC and the CMPA have a long history of supporting independent Canadian producers working in the screen industries. The CMPA’s sponsorship will support a series of professional development bootcamps for CFC producers and CMPA members that will be focused on equipping producers with the tools they need to thrive in today's global media landscape.

“We are thrilled that the CMPA recognizes the value and importance of this program,” added Slawko Klymkiw, CEO, CFC. “The CMPA’s support of the Producers’ Lab illustrates their commitment to working with the CFC to elevate and empower emerging and mid-level producers in Canada who bring stories to life and contribute to the vibrancy of our industry.”

The 2020 Producers’ Lab begins mid-July and runs until mid-December. It is one of four labs that comprise the Cineplex Film Program, alongside the Directors’, Writers’ and Editors’ Labs. It is a five-and-a-half month, full-time program that offers a productive and immersive creative and business experience for up to five producers a year. The Producers’ Lab elevates and shapes a producer’s story and business skills, advances their ability to produce content for multiple platforms, and helps them build a viable business and career strategy. Applications are now open for the 2020 Lab.

CMPA members who are alumni of the Producers’ Lab include celebrated producers, such as:

  • Andrew Rosen and Anthony Leo, Aircraft Pictures (The Breadwinner, Holly Hobbie)
  • Christina Jennings, Shaftesbury (Murdoch Mysteries, Frankie Drake Mysteries)
  • Damon D’Oliveira, Conquering Lion Pictures (The Book of Negroes, The Rest of Us)
