CFC ushered in the first snowfall of the season today with a tree planting ceremony to celebrate the donation of 78 trees to the CFC and Windfields Estate, thanks to Tree Canada and Dreaming Tree Wines, a brand of Arterra Wines Canada and Constellation Brands, Inc. Representatives from the CFC, Tree Canada, Dreaming Tree Wines, Arterra Wines, Constellation Brands, Inc., the City of Toronto, and special guest and Rob Oliphant, Member of Parliament for Don Valley West, gathered on the grounds of Windfields Estate on a sunny wintry day to recognize the incredible work and generosity of Tree Canada and Dreaming Tree Wines in coming together to organize and support a large tree planting project on Windfields Estate and the adjacent Windfields Park. Projects like this exemplify Tree Canada’s mandate of growing better places to live.

Tree Canada, which celebrated its 25th anniversary this year, is Canada’s leading national tree planting charity dedicated to improving the lives of Canadians by planting and nurturing trees. Since their inception in 1992, Tree Canada has planted more than 82 million trees and has greened more than 600 schoolyards across Canada. Dreaming Tree Wines is a winery created by award-winning winemaker Sean McKenzie and musician Dave Matthews, who share a passion for wine and the environment, and has proudly donated more than $1,000,000 to environmental organizations over the years, including Tree Canada.

The donation of 78 trees to the CFC was part of Tree Canada’s Partners in Planting program, and was made possible through support and sponsorship from Dreaming Tree Wines. Mike Rosen, President of Tree Canada, had this to say about their partnership with the winery, “Tree Canada is so happy to have Dreaming Tree Wines as a long-time partner. They have a proven track record of environmental leadership and their support of our tree-planting efforts has made a real difference in many communities. Simply put, their support allows programs like this one come to life.”

The donation and planting of these trees at Windfields Estate is part of CFC’s ongoing greening project, a continued effort to preserve and maintain our heritage property and grounds, including the restoration of, and additions to, our heritage gardens. In the nearly 30 years that CFC has called Windfields Estate home, a number of trees have been lost due to disease, age and environmental elements. This very generous donation has now allowed us to replenish and rejuvenate our heritage property to its original greener grandeur. The CFC collaborated with not only Tree Canada, but also with the City of Toronto Capital Assets, Economic Development and Culture Department and Parks and Recreation to ensure these trees would be planted in appropriate locations throughout our picturesque grounds so that they may flourish and be enjoyed for many years to come.

Thank you Tree Canada and Dreaming Tree Wines – we will be reminded of your generous donation every time we look out to the beautiful greenery and lush trees on Windfields Estate.
