CFC Residents & Alumni Recognized As Outstanding Canadian Talent

On the heels of another successful CFC Annual BBQ Fundraiser on Sunday, September 10, 2017, which celebrated a record-breaking year of CFC alumni at TIFF ’17, and the conclusion of the festival on Sunday, we are proud to share a number of additional recent CFC alumni successes. From awards to industry recognition, “it lists” and more – CFC residents and alumni are some of the most touted talent in the screen entertainment industry.

Mary Goes Round

Telefilm Canada PITCH THIS!

  • Alumnus Adam Goldhammer and his team won the 2017 TIFF Industry Telefilm Canada PITCH THIS! competition for their feature film idea Imposter, based off of the 2016 CFC short film of the same name. Fellow CFC alumnus Daniel Bekerman (The Witch) is on board to produce the feature. (See more HERE)

2017 DGC Discovery Award

  • Four CFC alumni have been included in the list of 15 nominees up for the Directors Guild of Canada’s 2017 Discovery Award:
  • The DGC award is designed to honour “outstanding achievement by an emerging Canadian director or an established director working in a new genre” and is presided over by jury chair and CFC alumna Ingrid Veninger. (Read more HERE and HERE)

  • Current Actors Conservatory resident Kawennáhere Devery Jacobs and alumna Mina Shum were honoured by Telefilm Canada and Maison Birks during TIFF with the annual Birks Diamond Tribute to the Year's Women in Film. (Read more HERE and HERE)

  • Kawennáhere Devery Jacobs has also been included on The Hollywood Reporter’s list of Canada's Rising Stars: 15 Breakouts Making an Impact in Hollywood. (Read more HERE)

  • Alumna Molly McGlynn, alumnus Joel Hynes and Comedy Exchange participant Jason Filiatrault have been named three of Playback’s 2017 “5 2 Watch” – a list of five screen entertainment industry up-and-comers selected from more than 300 nominees.

ACCT: Apprenticeship for Women Directors

Reem Morsi

  • Alumna Reem Morsi has been named one of six content creators selected for The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television’s inaugural Apprenticeship for Women Directors, a six-month intensive program where participants will be paired with a working director to provide professional development.

  • Alumnus Matt Code (Wildling Pictures) recently received the CMPA Indiescreen Award in the Emerging Producer category with his business partner Kristy Neville, recognizing their significant early-career accomplishments and the bright prospects that lie ahead. (Read more HERE)
