In Memoriam: David Widdicombe

David Widdicombe (1962 - 2017)

The CFC is saddened to learn of the passing of our alumnus, David Widdicombe.

A talented and widely recognized writer-director of television, radio and film, David began his career writing radio plays for the CBC. As a playwright, his critically acclaimed work included Dinosaur Dreams, The River Lady and Science Fiction, which was nominated for four Dora Mavor Moore Awards.

At the CFC, David attended the Cineplex Entertainment Film Program Writers’ Lab, the Short Dramatic Film Program and the Professional Screenwriting Program Bootcamp from 2001 to 2002. He wrote and directed Santa Baby, which won Best Film Comedy at the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival, Best Screenplay at the Worldwide Short Film Festival, and was shortlisted for an Academy Award nomination.

This truly talented writer and kind, generous person will be dearly missed.
