The winners for the 2015 Vimeo On Demand Audience Award were announced on Monday, May 4, 2015 after the final screening at this year’s Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival. The Vimeo On Demand Audience Award is given to the documentary that receives the most audience votes throughout the 11-day festival.
This year CFC is proud to congratulate alumnae Shelley Saywell and Su Rynard, whose films Lowdown Tracks and The Messenger came in second and third place, respectively. Both films made their world premieres at this year’s festival.
In Lowdown Tracks, passion, talent and tragedy combine in the performances of five transient musicians who busk for change on Toronto’s street. Their songs of survival and stories of life on the margins deeply resonate, with help from The Parachute Club’s Lorraine Segato.
The Messenger explores human’s deep-seated connection to birds and warns that the uncertain fate of songbirds might mirror our own.
