What is it?

Music creators are integral to the storytelling process. The Slaight Family Music Residency is designed to bolster the integration of composers and songwriters into the onscreen process and foster opportunities to increase the use of Canadian music in film, television, interactive and digital properties.

Program Structure

The Slaight Music Residency is part-time, six-month creative and business experience that fully integrates composers and songwriters into the onscreen narrative storytelling process. The Residency is a combination of tailored mentorship, workshops and industry sessions that are designed to expand the skills, onscreen confidence and career and marketplace opportunities for participating music creators.

Eligibility

This program is designed for composers and singer-songwriters who:

  • Are deeply committed to their craft
  • Are ready to explore their artistic practice as it relates to onscreen music creation
  • Are prepared to engage in a professional collaborative process
  • Are looking to expand their range as an onscreen music creator


Composers

To apply, composers must must have scored some onscreen work, including features, short films, television series, webseries, commercials, documentaries, video games, and/or theatre.

Songwriters

To apply, songwriters must have written songs that have been placed in film, television series, webseries, commercials, video games, theatre, and/or released by a record label, or have a publishing contract.


Applicants must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada.

Tuition & Fees

Tuition is covered by a full scholarship thanks to the generosity of CFC donors. Monthly bursaries while in program and a relocation bursary are also provided. Please visit Financial Assistance for more information.
