CONTEST RULES AND REGULATIONS
CANADIAN FILM CENTRE MEDIA LAB / TELUS IAEP CONTEST
from October 29, 2009 to Monday, December 14, 2009

1. TO ENTER
To enter the CFC Media Lab/TELUS IAEP contest, you must
  • a) complete the official CFC Media Lab Program application form (“Application Form”) available online at  http://cfccreates.com/what_we_do/cfc_media_lab/telus_interactive_art_and_entertainment_program/apply.php within which contestant must provide such required information as name, address, email address, telephone number and age; and

  • b)  show us the outer limits of your creativity by re-imagining one of the six listed real-world items as they could be in a world where the virtual and the real are intrinsically connected. Submissions must be provided via hyperlink. Submissions are only limited by the breadth of the internet – we’ll take your ideas as videos, audio recordings, web pages, written documents, animations, or any other form(collectively the “Submission Materials”), but they need to be submitted as a link (hosted externally). Submission Materials should include a statement of synthesis if they are not self-explanatory,

and then return to the CFC the completed Application Form and hyperlink to the Submission Materials at medialab@cfccreates.com


Contestants may only enter the contest on-line at the URL above.  Any Application Forms and supporting materials received in any other way by the CFC shall be destroyed.

To be valid, all successfully completed Application Forms and URL links to accompanying Submission Materials must be received electronically by the CFC no later than 11:59 p.m. EST on Monday, December 14, 2009. Multiple entries of the same submission will be disqualified.

Application Forms become the property of CFC and will not be returned to contestants.


Submission Materials should be no more than 5 minutes in length.  All Submission Materials must be created by and be the original work of the contestant, and must not violate the rights of any third party. By submitting an entry, contestants agree to grant CFC the non-exclusive worldwide right in perpetuity to access, use and display or play (as applicable) on the internet these Submission Materials through CFC and/or TELUS IAEP branded websites, including but not limited to the CFC website, in whole or in part, for promotion and marketing purposes for TELUS IAEP, the CFC and the Media Lab programs.


No purchase required.


2. ELIGIBILITY
Contest is open to all Canadian residents, with the exception of Quebec residents, with internet access who have reached the age of majority in their province of residence at the time of entering the contest. Employees of CFC and TELUS IAEP, and their affiliates, as well as their immediate family (father/mother, brother/sister, son/daughter) or persons living under the same roof are not eligible to enter this contest.


3. PROCEDURE FOR AWARDING PRIZES
The winner is selected by a CFC Media Lab judging panel consisting of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 judges.  Contest  Submission Materials are judged on criteria including material that is considered innovative in content and delivery, material that is the most engaging, imaginative and that makes us think and / or feel.

Winners will be contacted by e-mail only by the CFC no later than January 22, 2010.  Winners must claim their prize as instructed by CFC by no later than February 5, 2010.  If the prize is not claimed within this period, a new winner will be chosen by the panel.

4. DESCRIPTION OF PRIZE
The prize is full tuition to one CFC Media Lab TELUS Interactive Art & Entertainment Program (IAEP) given at the CFC at 2489 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, Ontario M2L 1A8.  This program is Canada's first post-graduate training and production program based on a philosophy that compelling content is created though a collaborative process harnessing a wide range of creative skills and talents.


Team-based, self-directed and project-driven, the TELUS IAEP merges collaborative exploration with the fundamentals of new media, with a particular emphasis on narrative theory and storytelling. Residents learn from a variety of perspectives including academic, industrial, artistic, technological, and practical.


The prize includes only what is specifically described and no other allowance will be granted.  The winner will have to pay all other related expenses with respect to the prize such as transportation, meals and beverages and any personal expenses.


The winner must be available to attend the CFC Media Lab’s 2009 Fall session which begins in September 2009.  If the winner is unable to attend this session, the prize will be forfeited without compensation, and a new winner may be chosen.
The total value of the prize is $8,500 Canadian dollars.


5. GENERAL RULES
5.1 To be declared a winner, the contestant must first correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question.

5.2 Winner shall agree, if necessary, to have their name and/or picture, including their photograph, and/or their voices used for advertising and promotional purposes related to the TELUS IAEP, CFC, the Media Lab and this contest, free of charge.

5.3 Winner shall sign a document attesting to: i) their eligibility as stipulated in paragraph 2 of these rules; ii) the fact that the Submission Materials were created by and are the original work of the contestant, and do not violate the rights of any third party; (iii) their agreement to grant CFC the non-exclusive worldwide right in perpetuity to access, use and display or play (as applicable) on the internet these Submission Materials through CFC and/or TELUS IAEP branded websites, including but not limited to the CFC website, in whole or in part, for promotion and marketing purposes for TELUS IAEP, the CFC and the Media Lab programs; and iii) releasing CFC, TELUS IAEP, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, from all liability for any damage or loss arising from participation in this contest, from the awarding, acceptance or use of the prize, or from the use as contemplated above of the Submission Materials.

5.4 The prize shall be accepted as is and may not be exchanged for an amount of money, nor sold nor transferred. No substitutions will be allowed.

5.5 If the prize cannot be awarded as described in these rules, CFC, TELUS IAEP, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, reserve the right to substitute a prize or prize component with another of comparable value.

5.6 Refusal to accept the prize releases CFC, TELUS IAEP their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, of any obligation toward the winner.

5.7 Should winners make any false statement, they shall be automatically disqualified from the contest.

5.8 CFC, TELUS IAEP, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, shall assume no liability resulting from losses, delays, mistaken addresses and email addresses, e-mail received, typographical errors, technical, computer or telephone malfunctions, loss or theft of computer or telephone data, damage to software or computer equipment, fraudulent calls or any other mistake.

5.9 CFC, TELUS IAEP their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, shall assume no liability whatsoever for any situation in which their inability to act results from an event or situation beyond their control, including a strike, lockout or any other labour dispute at their location or the locations of the organizations and businesses whose services are used to hold this contest

5.10 All personal information, such as your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address and age is collected solely for the purposes of administering this contest and shall not be used for any other purpose without your consent. By providing this information, you consent to it being used for the stated purposes. You will be automatically added to the CFC newsletter mailing list, which you have the option to cancel at any time.

5.11 By entering, contestants agree to abide by the contest rules which shall be applied by the CFC. All its decisions are final.
