Pat Whelan is the co-founder and CEO of Paddle HR, a Toronto-based, venture-backed startup. Paddle HR helps large companies keep and retain talent by matching employees to new jobs within the company. This is critical for employers, as the top reason people leave their jobs is a lack of career growth opportunities. Paddle HR leverages machine learning based on 370 million people’s career histories to model career paths and predict employees next moves.
Before founding Paddle HR, Pat worked as a political staffer for the Mayor of London, Ontario, the Deputy Premier of Ontario and a Canadian federal election campaign. In 2013, Pat was elected President of the Western University Students’ Council representing 30,000 undergraduate students and responsible for the council’s $20M annual budget.
Pat Whelan has a Bachelors degree in Computer Science and Management from Western University. He is currently a founding board member of the Open Democracy Project, a nonprofit focused on opening up municipal politics and is an active volunteer in the CivicTech community.
