Windfields Campus Improvement Project

The CFC’s campus is located at Windfields Estate, the former home of celebrated Canadian philanthropist and entrepreneur, E. P. Taylor. Mr. Taylor began construction on the main house in 1932; over the next 20 years he added the cottages (4), stables, gate house and green house/potting shed.

In 1988, the Taylor family transferred ownership of the property to the City of Toronto for the use of the CFC.

Working with top heritage property experts, the CFC has created a comprehensive plan which honours Windfields’ original architecture and landscaping while identifying the need for upgrades to “State of Good Repair” and alterations and enhancements to the Estate. The completion of this work will preserve the Estate as a cultural landmark and Provincial Heritage Site.

With the generous support of the Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario, the City of Toronto and others, the CFC was pleased to begin construction on the Windfields Estate Beautification Project in 2009. Upgrades include:

  • Conversion to greener and more cost-effective geo-thermal heating and air conditioning
  • Plumbing and electrical system upgrades
  • Increasing barrier-free access
  • Window restoration
  • Attic remediation
  • Masonry repairs and foundation stabilization
  • Terrace remediation
  • Roof repair and re-shingling
  • Renovations to the Green house, Gate House, Cottages and outdoor pavilion
