Job Description

The Canadian Film Centre (CFC), celebrating 30 years, is a charitable cultural organization that supports, develops and accelerates the content, careers and companies of Canadian creative and entrepreneurial talent in the screen-based and digital industries. Its uniquely designed programs and initiatives span film, television, screen acting, screen composing and songwriting, and innovative work in the digital media and entertainment technology industries, all of which continue to push boundaries and generate world-class content, products and companies for the global marketplace.


Under the direction of the Director of Partnerships & Events, Events Manager, and the Coordinator, Development & Events, the Development & Events Intern-Volunteers’ duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Volunteer Recruiting & Management:

  • Supervise and manage a volunteer network (e.g., recruitment, screening, interview, placement, training, orientation retention and recognition)
  • Participate in the development and delivery of orientation and training programs for volunteers
  • Promote volunteering (internally and externally) through recruitment, publicity strategies and campaigns
  • Interview and recruit volunteers and ensure they are appropriately matched and trained for a position
  • Preparation of all volunteer information and commitment forms
  • Reporting and updating volunteer manual post-events

Silent Auction Support at the CFC Gala and Silent Auction (February 21, 2019):

  • Donation solicitation and tracking assistance
  • Administration and reporting
  • Packaging items and creating accompanying descriptions

Provide Departmental Support to the Development & Events Team, including:

  • Database entry and management (Salesforce)
  • Administrative support, filing, meeting minutes
  • Sponsorship management support
  • Compilation of sponsorship reports post-event

Assist with the Following CFC Events:

  • CFC Annual Gala & Auction (February 21, 2019)
  • CFC Annual Garden Party (June 2019)
  • Monthly Circle of Supporters screenings
  • Program showcases, receptions and other events
  • Internal meetings, such as executive lunches
  • External events and all other events as required

Other Duties:

  • Attend all departmental event and meetings, and provide notetaking at meetings
  • Provide back-up assistance to reception desk as required
  • Event support as required
  • Other duties as required

Hours of Work: 37.5 hrs/week
Compensation: $14.00/hour


Required Skills:

  • Event planning experience
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with superior attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Exceptional at multitasking, problem solving and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be organized, resourceful and motivated with strong team building skills
  • Enthusiastic can-do attitude

Additional Skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce (or similar database), Adobe Photoshop and Acrobat would be an asset
